2024 CASANZ Industry Excellence Award: RAC Air Health Monitor

We are thrilled to announce that the RAC Air Health Monitor (AHM), powered by Clarity's advanced Node-S air quality sensors, has been honored with the 2024 Clean Air Society of Australia & New Zealand (CASANZ) Innovation and Excellence Award in the Industry Excellence category.

The RAC Air Health Monitor was honored with the 2024 CASANZ Innovation and Excellence Award. This groundbreaking initiative, launched by the Royal Automobile Club of Western Australia (RAC WA), stands as Australia’s largest and most sophisticated air quality monitoring system with 200+ Clarity Node-S sensors strategically installed across Perth and the Peel region. Check out the video below for more details on this initiative!

Spanning over 9,700 square kilometers of air quality monitoring coverage, the AHM delivers real-time air pollution data with continuous monitoring of key air pollutants including particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and black carbon. This high-resolution air quality measurement is complemented by Ramboll Shair’s air pollution modeling capabilities, which combines sensor data with real-time traffic information and motor vehicle emissions modeling to offer air quality data with a 200-meter resolution.

Clarity Node-S air quality sensors (pictured) are deployed across Perth, providing real-time air quality measurements for the Air Health Monitor.

The RAC AHM goes beyond mere data collection; it serves as a catalyst for behavioral change, informs policy-making, and ultimately aims to improve air quality and public health across Western Australia. Featuring an interactive online platform accessible to the public, government officials, and researchers, this initiative aligns seamlessly with RAC WA’s vision of fostering a safer, more sustainable, and connected future for all Western Australians.

The RAC AHM’s success highlights the potential of Clarity's Sensing-as-a-Service air quality monitoring solution in advancing air quality monitoring and enhancing environmental health initiatives.

2022 CASANZ Innovation Award: CleanAir Schools Program

With this award, Clarity’s air quality monitoring technology has now been a winner of the prestigious CASANZ Industry Excellence Award for two consecutive years.

The New South Wales Clean Air Schools program was the winner of the 2022 CASANZ Innovation Award. Led by Associate Professor Donna Green of the University of New South Wales, this world-first collaboration between researchers, industry, government, and schools emerged in response to the devastating Black Summer bushfires.

Clarity was also honored with a CASANZ industry award in 2022, for the Clean Air Schools project in New South Wales.

The project expanded from a pilot program of 10 schools to 110 schools statewide, funded by the New South Wales State Government, leveraging Clarity’s Node-S air quality sensors to create a network of low-cost calibrated sensors in schools with real-time, paired indoor and outdoor air quality readings.

The Significance of Back-to-Back CASANZ Awards

Receiving consecutive recognition from CASANZ highlights several critical aspects of Clarity's technology:

  • Versatility: Our Sensing-as-a-Service solution is highly adaptable, supporting projects ranging from expansive city-wide networks to targeted school-based programs.
  • Reliability: The consistent performance of our technology across award-winning projects underscores its dependability for crucial air quality monitoring initiatives.
  • Innovation: Both award-winning projects demonstrate the innovative applications of Clarity's state-of-the-art technology in air quality monitoring.
  • Impact: These accolades reflect the significant role Clarity’s technology plays in improving air quality and public health.

Looking ahead

As air quality remains a pressing global concern, Clarity is dedicated to advancing innovative monitoring solutions. Our success in powering award-winning initiatives like the RAC Air Health Monitor illustrates the transformative potential of our Sensing-as-a-Service model and Node-S air pollution sensors in fostering healthier communities worldwide.

The RAC Air Health Monitor is poised for further development, with plans to expand its monitoring capabilities to include additional air quality parameters such as ozone and black carbon. This expansion highlights the flexibility and scalability of Clarity's technology in addressing evolving air quality challenges.
